Different types of genre to scratch different itches.

An RPG is a cerebral thing. It stimulates your strategy and planning and manipulating data. And it's more story focused. It's a more relaxing type of game.

A platformer is a more physical experience, similar to a fighting game or a shooter. It's about making precise timed moves and fighting against the game in real time.

An RPG isn't just "better" than a platformer, it is just a different kind of product altogether.

Of course there are action RPGs that do a bit of both too, but sometimes you don't want both. Sometimes I just want to shut my brain off and run through an army of koopas.
