And while excessive pursuit of wealth for wealth's sake can be a problem, it's also been something we've been dealing with ever since wealth became a thing in the first place, and it hasn't destroyed us yet. Very much the opposite. So hard no, unless your "destroy us" is meant in both a metaphorical and individual sense.
