Redeeming him is the worst move the ST made. I'm always puzzled when people say TLJ left them with nowhere to go, and it's like...no? Kylo is your main villain now. Do something drastic in the opening act (like, idk, kill Poe, or beat Rey one-on-one) to give him a bit more credibility. Easiest thing in the world. But no, we need the Emperor because ???? This, but I think people mean more in terms of stuff being set up in The Force Awakens and then just being jettisoned in The Last Jedi. Wasn't a fan of the latter but I liked the direction it was going. I must be the only one who didn't like TLJ who still thinks it deserved the good reviews it got (albeit mostly because that was such a bad year for film), and finds a good chunk of the backlash to carry undertones of racism and sexism.
