Neutering is generally viewed as necessary because it's preventing further suffering in a greater number of animals, and ... well this is screwed up sounding but it helps regulate their mood and makes them more comfortable living in an enclosed space, which can also be seen as helping improve their quality of life since they're not going out of their minds trying to find a mate every month while being stuck in an enclosed space.

It is a really sad thing to think about but it's definitely not the same as declawing, which offers zero benefit at all to the pet.
i've always wondered about the health effects of neutering your dog/cat. you're removing major hormone secreting tissue during the early growth phase of your pet, its hard to believe that its not fucking something up.
