@monkmith Indoor cats on average lead much longer lives than outdoor cats. But indoor cats in heat also go out of their mind. It does moderate their behavior somewhat but it's still generally more humane and it isn't like a lobotomy or something, they're still playful and keep their instincts and everything.

Declawing is basically cutting off the last joint of their fingers, it's something entirely unnatural and they have a really hard time adjusting to that. It screws up their traction and they still have the instinct to scratch things to sharpen their claws.
