It does moderate their behavior somewhat but it's still generally more humane and it isn't like a lobotomy or something, they're still playful and keep their instincts and everything.

Declawing is basically cutting off the last joint of their fingers, it's something entirely unnatural and they have a really hard time adjusting to that. It screws up their traction and they still have the instinct to scratch things to sharpen their claws.
i'm not defending declawing in any way, i've never thought it was ethical and never really saw the point beyond that. but i do question the long term health effects of neutering.

endocrinology is very complex, and testicles/ovaries are major parts of the endocrine system. its reasonable to assume that removing that tissue, especially in prepubescent/still growing animals, would have negative effects on their development. the observable effects (behavior changes and things like that) are obvious, but its also likely that it predisposes them to early cancer and growth/development issues.
