Europe tried it and they're all dead and destroyed, anarchy reigns. Oh wait, the EU is doing just fine. :l Funny that they have a larger population and plenty of high density cities yet have less cases than some of our states combined.

Also, our (Holland) lock-down has been acceptable. We have a functional social safety net, we were able to work from home, we could still go to the stores, restaurants recently reopened. We dealt with it and are now slowely opening back up again.

In the USA, when you lose your job, you often lose your healthcare, you can miss your payments and lose your home, or get kicked out of your rented place. You'll be on your own. So people are desperate to just keep employed, keep working, etc.
