What's the background on this topic?

Just a minor thing pulled from a rando website where there was a chart showing the percentage of students by race who applied and were accepted to a medical program and it was higher for black applicants compared to asian applicants, but the chart left out the number of students who applied so the percentages were an entirely useless statistic.

For example, a 20% acceptance rate when 10 black kids apply (did 10 black kids apply, who knows that's the problem) for a total of 2 black medical students compared to a 10% rate when 50 asian kids apply for a total of 5 asian medical students is pretty misleading and that rando website clearly had an agenda. Also making it suspicious was that it also didn't account for where applicants applied, so there's room for more statpadding if one group applied mostly to very competitive schools and another group settled for something easier to get into.
