It kind of does, though. There are YouTubers from like a decade ago who just up and vanished at the height of their popularity who people STILL bring up in a "what ever happened to...?" sort of context.

If you openly say "Hey guys, I'm deliberately stepping away from YouTube because of X, Y, and Z", it keeps people spending the next few years trying to figure out if you died of some illness or got murdered or were kidnapped and brainwashed by some sort of cult.

Ironically, depending on your ego and what you want out of the situation, walking away without a goodbye might actually be the more valuable option, because it will help perpetuate your reputation even after you're gone. While an actual goodbye is more what you'd expect from actual human beings who may genuinely care about their audience and the people in it and give them something resembling closure instead of just severing all ties like a bit of a sociopath.
