Hmm, I don't recall instances of mass confusion in 1977 or the 80s when people went to theaters for OT. Everyone seemed perfectly fine with it and I heard somewhere that it did pretty well in the box office.

And yeah, okay the Vader "surprise" isn't even that anymore I know this. It's not the best example in that everyone already knows...but assume you didn't. Or rather...assume this is some other work someone wrote that has an equal surprise but you find it out early because you decided to start with their prequels which got released years later and nullify that surprise.

Basically, release order is always as intended for reasons like this. If release order didn't work...it wouldn't have been the released order to begin with. Exceptions exist rarely, but Star Wars just isn't one.
