I think that, even if the entire party hates him, the GOP is kinda stuck with Trump at this point. They've spent four years covering his ass and making excuses for his incompetence and criminal activity, and if they tried to make an about-face, there are two negative outcomes. For the opposition, they get to run on "these fuckers KNEW what this criminal was doing LONG before he left office, and they allowed it to happen anyway because the criminal helped them out". For the diehards, without even taking into account the fact that turning on Trump would be viewed as a betrayal...the GOP admitting they were wrong would be viewed as a sign of weakness, and thus unworthy of respect or support. They've kinda GOTTA double down on "he did nothing wrong" at this point, confident in the knowledge that our current political system will never allow probably punishment for their actions.
