Uhm, not really? By that point two statements had been made about Luke's father, which are framed as mutually exclusive. Luke's father is death and Luke's father is Vader (and alive), up to that point, Luke and the viewer have no reason to assume Obi was lying.

Jones his original response makes sense, but the second statement does cause doubt, which Jedi resolved.

Then again, my mom would say it was always obvious. In Dutch subtitles, Darth Vader remained Darth Vader, but she always assumed the Vader part was a translation, meaning she always referred to him as "Darth Father".
