White families were able to build equity, have stability & prosper while black families still werent. Black people were still being terrorized, discriminated against, and being lynched by white folks in the South. Whenever there was talk of Jim Crow laws being removed or black people gaining more civil rights, white folks in the South put up more Confederate statues and were renaming things after the Confederacy. The branding behind the syrup was racist as f* and it had only been toned down instead of being replaced.
