As for the asshole in this story, the initial article very strongly suggests that he was annoyed by the singing. Last I checked, Asians aren't the only people to sing "Happy Birthday". iirc, his rant had racial overtones, but ultimately he was saying whatever he could to hurt and provoke (or, in other words, OFFEND) the victims of his tirade. If it occurs to you at any point to use someone's race as an insult, or involve it in any way where it's not specifically relevant, you're a racist.
