I think what especially made this work was that each item being ranked is 2 minutes long at most, so everyone can watch them and compare with your write-ups even without any prior familiarity. Opening to movies can be fun. Or maybe intros to video games. There's also always endings but other than anime, those are usually just credits. --- Into the woods, but mind the past...
