The government is very cowboy when it comes to getting their money back. I do a lot of tax accounting work and there are clients that come to me for help because they got too much refund and the IRS wants that money back. Most of the time it's negligence because they try to file the tax on their own and have no idea what they're doing, but I do have clients that were fully aware they got too much and just spent it all. Those are the clients I tend to push away because they're in a messy situation overall and no matter what I do they won't like the outcome and I get blamed for it (happened to me 5 times in order for me to go with a big nope).
