One of the things that makes this musical stand out compared to the movie it's originally based on is by making Audrey II into a character with real personality, as opposed to the original who was basically just a creature that insisted on being fed. You really get a better sense of Audrey's ability to manipulate Seymour in this song (who is as evil as Audrey, possibly even moreso when you consider the fact that what Audrey is doing is because he needs to feed, whereas Seymour's motivations are much more shallow).
