It's more than just a slightly worse version. The animals don't emote in any meaningful way and it completely lacks the visual vibrancy that made the original so noteworthy. The original also has phenomenal pacing, while the remake adds half an hour to the running time by...largely slowing things down. Sure, it follows the same narrative, but a movie is far more than simply reading off a script. Every single change they made is for the negative.
