A lot of users here seem to not understand what liberalism mean. I'd guess it's because Americans started calling their left-wing as ''libs'' as an insult.

What is refered to as liberalism today is mostly based of the concept of negative liberty. It's literally the absence of rules to promote individual freedom and lower personal restrictions. Survival of the fittest at it's purest form.

When left wingers talk about liberalism, it is based of around positive liberty. That means to compensate for the fact that poor people are too busy struggling for survival to have any opportunities to make choices.
