They have a big fanbase that only play sports games and they have the monopoly on it. Those people have nowhere else to go. It's like an abusive relationship and a lot of them have stockholm syndrome. I don't think it would work as well for other franchises, since there's way more people who would just play something else. A lot of sports fans are suckers and they know that.
