I do feel like the Frank Zappa appreciation topic is different, because that's clearly for fans who enjoy his work. (And you provide informational links in the first post anyway! Anyone asking "who" after that is clearly a troll tbh)

But a breaking news topic is for everyone, not just people who have heard about the guy before, and it's full of people asking questions about the situation (do we know what he did? has he made any statement yet? could it be related to the rumors that ____?) So coming into that topic to ask a more basic question ("who's that") doesn't seem out of line.

aside from the good point that i do provide information in the first post, i don't think the difference is that big.

to go with one of shadowdude's examples, i don't know who kevin durant is. if someone made a topic going "lol kevin durant was running around naked in a mall," i wouldn't enter the topic just to ask who kevin durant is. i'd conclude that i'm not the target audience for this topic. that's not to say it's completely unreasonable for someone to ask the "who?" question in that topic but i just wouldn't do it. it's another matter of personal taste, i guess.

that being said, i still disagree with the "privatebiscuit is obviously implying that you SHOULD care about who jake paul is!" point that tons of people are making. i don't see that at all. to me, it comes across as if he just feels like talking about a story related to jake paul. like how i want to talk about frank zappa or someone else wants to talk about kevin durant etc.
