My honest view on Kamala on the issue is a bit two-fold, in that it was impressive to finally hear someone actually show some understanding of the movement and not running away from it, but also for better or worse, it's a privilege she had to publicly say it given her former history in law enforcement shielding her from the kneejerk criticism of "omg see you're a cop hater opposing the rule of law, I'm not gonna listen to you!" which obviously can't stick to her as a former DA

I think that (and Biden's history of enacting "tough on crime" legislation) are actually going to make it easier for them to enact meaningful reform here. It makes it harder for them to be painted as radicals on the issue (basically the same reason Trump has to launder his accusations of Biden being radical through this whole "puppet of AOC" nonsense; no one believes that Biden is a radical himself).
