Hey, I'm as anti-SJW as the rest of them, but I think women ruining the beloved Star Wars franchise is just karmic payback for "bronies" desecrating beloved female franchise My Little Pony.
That being said, you can't be surprised when the focus of your media is on how "hip" and "feminist" and "socially aware" it is, rather than on telling a good, cohesive story, that this results in an incoherent dumpster fire. And I think that's the main difference between the OT and the ST. The OT focused on universe building and telling a story, while the ST was more focused on making a "statement" and "3p1c m0m3nTz!!!!". Admiral bitch-face ramming the cruiser into the big bad guy ship makes LITERALLY ZERO SENSE based on any prior established rules of the universe, but it "looked cool" and "empowered womyn" so people make youtube reaction videos about how "great" it was.
