I was addressing mostly people en masse. My point was that yes the movie has serious problems, but I swear the movie wouldn't draw such vitriol if it weren't for outside circumstances beyond its control.

I'd go so far as to say another big reason for the vicious hate directed at the sequel trilogy is that people view it as emblematic of everything wrong with modern cinema. Which I can't really blame them for, to be honest.
