In the grand scheme of things it didn't matter because you could cut it or replace it with something similar and the film would be mostly the same.

It is a symptom of Disney's general attitude towards lightspeed in the Star Wars universe being a malleable gimmick that the heroes can use as a get out of trouble free card, rather than how previously it was a potentially dangerous and unreliable tool that was necessary at all times. Examples include light speed from inside a ship (TFA), onto a planet (TFA), through a ship (Rebels), and "skipping" (RoS). I suspect it's going to get more ridiculous with time.

Basically it's not a problem TLJ created, but they did put it in the forefront. It annoys me because it's one of the few things in Star Wars that has been relatively consistent before now.
