Lockdown mostly started in mid-March and the questioner is asking about why he had in-person events in March. I don't know when the very last in-person event Biden had was but if it was early-to-mid March then it wouldn't have been very unusual at all at the time and if it was mid-to-late March it would have been bordering on an event that's better off being online. At worst it was poor judgment and optics and at best it wasn't much of anything.

I think it's whataboutism to deflect to Trump altogether when a point is raised against Biden. But his point is clear that he's being held to a much, much higher standard that Trump is allowed to ignore altogether. While Biden canceled all of his in-person events after March/April, Trump continued his rallies into the summer, famously killing attendees of the Tulsa rally including fellow GOP Herman Cain. Not only were the Trump rallies in person but masks were almost patriotically NOT worn. DNC announced far, far in advance they'd be doing their convention online and RNC held out and begged multiple cities to let them get an exception to hold a big event in-person because Trump does better with an audience. The RNC we got a week ago was still a potential super-spreader event with thousands crowded together mostly unmasked.

Ironically, I believe Biden avoiding his in-person events altogether so early while Trump still did in-person events was the origin of the "Biden is hiding in his basement" attack. How crazy. Biden responsibly not going outside is used as an attack, and Biden not going inside early enough is used as an attack.
