Now I'm curious if any of the, like, extras crew in Star Wars went on to many works (well, for extras at least)

Like, if Jawa 3 or something went on to be in hundreds of movies

A lot of people who play bit roles and extras tend to do the same in a lot of films. There are a lot of actors in tons of movies despite never playing a lead.

I didn't say they weren't famous before LotR, I said they became known for one role. As in "now everyone thinks of them as that role".

I'd argue that of the ones you named, only Bloom and Bean actually got over it. Blanchett, too, but her LotR screen time wasn't even close to the others. I completely disagree with your assessment of Viggo's career, he's had nothing nearly as big ever since.

...except Ian McKellan is as known for playing Magneto as for Gandalf and he's played countless things besides that. In fact, other than *maybe* Elijah Wood, I'm not sure anybody from LotR really got typecast. And many, like John Rhys-Davies, people don't even think of their LotR role when they bring up the actor. In JRD's case, they're more likely to remember him for being in Indiana Jones because his face wasn't hidden by a beard and they weren't using camera tricks to hide his height. Personally, I remember him for Sliders as well.

And I'll note that typecasting doesn't necessarily hurt an actor. Michael Cera is typecast as hell -- he almost always plays one very specific type of character -- yet he's had pretty consistent work. And most action stars are typecast yet they have steady work. At the end of the day, if you're actually good (and a bit lucky), you'll get work. If you're not, you probably won't.

Honestly, I forgot Bloom was in LotR since I always just think of him as Will Turner. Given he was wearing an outrageously stupid wig during the film, it's hard to think of him as Legolas.
