It looks like the Supreme Court never got to rule on the constitutionality of sedition because President Jefferson pardoned everyone who had been convicted under the Sedition Act 1798 and the statute expired. Sedition is probably a common law crime but apparently the Supreme Court held in 1812 that there are no valid federal common law crimes anymore.
