You'll start losing muscle if you eat too little (like WAY too little), and your fat burn may slow down. If you're already overweight reducing your calories per day will help a ton. Having a cheat day even once a week will slow your progress by 50% or more. It sounds like you're maybe confused about when people say "don't reduce your calories TOO MUCH" -- that's because dieting isn't some crash thing you do and then return to your old way. It's a change in your lifestyle of eating... forever.
