It's mostly because A: That's probably what farmers have on hand to eat in the morning/doesnt take much work to prepare as well as: CommonJoe posted... Should also be noted that any given "traditional" American breakfast (including steak and eggs) is meant to precede manual labor or generally heavy activity. Its not something you eat just to sit on your ass all day, and thats where people tend to go wrong.
