I mean, I'm not so sure that's exclusive to being online. Being online just adds enough anonymity to say sod the consequences, kind of like being a privileged rich person with all the means to misdirect the masses from one thing you say or do with another thing that had been said or done . . . except more like wearing a mask that everyone is aware is a facade, so they'll bash against whatever you're presenting with their own persona, and yeah, it's just stupidity feeding stupidity for stupidity's sake at that point.
