This is ignoring that modern-day conservatism is rooted deeply in a set of outdated beliefs and a complete misunderstanding of how reality works.

If progressivism ever required something to balance it out, that belief system would bare almost no resemblance to the kind of conservatism we see today, to the point where it might as well be something different.

This also incorrectly presumes that the opposite of progress is stagnation, and not regression (which is historically what conservatives have stood for).

So fact remains, it has no place in a modern day functioning society

This entire topic doesn't actually have to do with progressivism vs. conservatism and is really another another anti-GOP/popular conservatism in America topic. The GOP does not represent conservatism, like at all actually. They are very willing to blindly spend money as long as it benefits them. Only relatively are they the "party of conservatism".

There was a time when the Code of Hammurabi was progressive. If you personally value religion, that is a conservative value. If you value order in society, that is a conservative value. If you value a moral code that you have established for yourself, that is a conservative value. It's really not as simple and partisan as people ITT are making it out to be.
