| Topic | Whiskey's Inevitable Election Rant.... |
| Zeus 11/07/20 1:47:28 AM #20: | WhiskeyDisk posted... if Trump vs Biden was the best anyone could come up with after Trump vs Clinton, even the pool of local candidates we have to draw from is horribly, horribly flawed. local elections are more important than ever. It's very rare for a presidential incumbent to face an internal challenge and, when they do, it almost always ends badly for their candidacy. As for Biden, you saw what he was up against. There really wasn't much talent in that pool. As for why that pool was so damn shallow, a lot of it comes down to when people get involved in the political process as well as the fact that direct democracies tend to be somewhat poor at generating great candidates because it basically becomes a popularity contest. You know, on top of the fact that the general population is generally poorly informed (or actively misinformed) and not terribly interested in trying to improve things for themselves; a large part of both problems comes down to the public education system which discourages free thought and innovation by design. Public schools are more interested in teaching kids the valuable skills of sitting still and quietly for hours on end, to ask permission when they have to use the bathroom, etc. --- (\/)(\/)|-| There are precious few at ease / With moral ambiguities / So we act as though they don't exist. ...
