Part II says that Jason didn't drown, but instead grew up as a feral child living in the woods. Part VIII seems to imply that Jason did drown. So I guess he grew up as a zombie? In Part III, his face is deformed but otherwise healthy. In Part IV, which takes place immediately following, his face appears to be decomposing. He died at the end of Part 4.
