It's design is to protect from lasers, lacerations and burns. It's clearly different and lighter. Logic about flaws in human armor on Earth is not automatically applicable. Reminds me of a scene in Star Trek The Next Generation where Scotty is running around Engineering panicking that everything is wrong because he doesn't standard how the stuff works.
