TopicThe Zelda timelines were a mistake

The timeline made sense up to a certain point.

Zelda 1 -> Zelda 2 was a direct sequel

LttP was a prequel to 1, and LA was a direct sequel to that

Then OoT was a Ganon origin story, with, again, its own direct sequel. And then WindWaker was easy enough to follow, because it spelled out explicitly how the previous game played into the story.

So up to this point everything made sense. It was

OoT (MM) -> LttP (LA) -> Zelda 1, Zelda 2
or
OoT (MM) -> WW
It was fucking Twilight Princess that fucked everything up because instead of just letting the child timeline lead to the imprisoning war, it made up its own story that was largely incompatible with the continuity that had been established. >_____>

That said, the franchise is best enjoyed as a loosely connecting mythology than a strict timeline, because Nintendo refuses to actually do any world building, and just makes up new stuff for each game anyway <_<

Seriously, they need to abandon Ganon altogether at this point. The franchise doesn't need him, and constantly finding excuses to justify his existence in each game after he's been killed/sealed more times than fucking Naraku strains the enjoyability of the stories. (RIP Zant)
