Crono lost to Vincent with a sprite in 2007 and beat him without it in 2008. Sprites don't really appear to boost an opponent, but a bad sprite definitely drags someone down. Ganondorf is the prime example of that. Well, Snake, too, I guess. He doesn't come anywhere close to losing to Frog without it, even in 2004.
