There is something that is stopping me from starting exercise

The reason I've had so much success with dieting is because I'm using mathematics to determine how much I should eat. I never exceed 1400 calories a day, unless I'm with friends or family which is extremely rare. Every product I buy has the amount of calories listed on it, so it's easy.

if I introduce exercising, I don't know how I can mathematically determine anything from that. As far as I know, there's no way to know how many calories you burn from doing a workout. Am I wrong on that? And people keep telling me "you should increase your calorie amount and just work out instead" but that completely throws away the mathematics involved.

You're right you can't really calculate calorie burn

Strength training isn't a calorie burner anyway. If you have more muscle you'll store less fat. The only math involved is trying to do one more rep than last time
