It's definitely flawed and not for everyone - it can't decide whether it wants to be a kid's movie or a more edgy YA movie, and too often these halves mix like oil and water. (though it's hard to pin down the reason: I couldn't exactly tell you why Spirtle and Chim-Chim's antics in the racecar factory are terrible while the ninja attack and Greco-Roman wrestling bit work quite well). But the visual style is very unique, and the parts of the movie that do work do so fantastically. And between this and his work on The Incredibles two years earlier, it solidified my opinion that Michael Giacchino is one of the best movie composers working today. --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. ...
