St. Patrick's story was that he was a British kid who got captured was sent to Ireland as a slave. There, he was subjected to abuse and and harsh conditions, and witnessed eye-opening torment among the female slaves. He eventually escaped to freedom and returned home, but he returned as a devout Christian to introduce the religion and instill the basic belief that every human being has value and should be entitled to fundamental human rights.

I bring this up to show that there are beliefs we have in modern day society that I feel are taken for granted.
you're skipping over the bit where he "banished snakes from irelend" by killing off all the supporters of pagan religions.

rules against murder/theft/slavery aren't in any way special and related to any religion. they're a basic necessity of any stable social system. without some form of rules society would colapse.
