Basic morality is common sense. Every culture on earth has rules against murder and stealing.

But does morality come from religion or something else?

Also, if morality is common sense, why do people still commit crimes against each other?

Simply put - we don't know where morality 'came' from. We know it is a social construct, but what causes us to know that murder is wrong, theft is wrong, etc? For the youngest people (children), they learn that breaking moral rules results in punishment - so ultimately in modern society, morals are 'taught' by our parents/caretakers through the use of negative/positive punishment or positive/negative rewarding.

It would be pretty easy to assume that religion had a role in morality - especially since most religions have similar codes and laws.
