But does morality come from religion or something else?
It comes from an innate understanding that all life shares, that anything that goes against the opposite of what nature dictates is what is considered wrong. Murder and stealing are ideas that go directly against nature, which is fundamentally about giving life and providing the universal means to sustain said life, predicated on various degrees of biology. Plants and animals don't steal or commit murder because they exist on a level of intelligence where there is no such thing as "yours", "mine" or "kill". Those are concepts that are introduced to beings like us because we're out of balance and have forgotten our place, and thus we are mentally and psychologically falling for the illusion that we can possess objects or take a life. Children are born without these misunderstandings because they are the closest to what we consider "God" and are naturally balanced with feelings and ideas such as love, compassion, sharing and joy, but as we age and we are taught various degrees of Western psychology that negatively influence our minds, we become cynical and therefore become our own enemies.
