Delphine, the girl in question, makes content that caters to them and embraces them idolizing her. End result: They're obsessed with her and they want to her to be their own. There may be that one extreme person that may act on their feelings, but this goes for virtually any fandom that doesn't have any real barrier to entry (intelligence or creativity, a prehand level of understanding or knowledge). I recall the dude who played the leading hero of the Twilight series having to go to extremes to deter his swarming fans from getting close to him when the Twilight movie first came out. And Justin Bieber is still duking out with disgruntled fans who are upset that he's married to someone other than Selena Gomez.
