I don't need to justify my identity to you. I live in the Americas therefore I am american. The fact that your country appropriated the name "America" for itself is your own problem.

Because we are the United States of America. That's the smart ass technical answer. The real answer is that's just how the world views the United States, because it is AFAIK the only country in the world to have the word "America" in it.

So if you have a problem with why you shouldn't call yourself American as a person from a South American country, maybe take it up with the rest of the world. Nobody is saying you can't, but it's not really logical to do so when you have something more specific to identity yourself with (your country or city).

But it doesn't seem like you want your mind opened on this forum where everyone is telling you the same thing.
