Where the heck are you getting that from? Maybe a handful of AAA titles that got rushed at launch or something, but other than that the vast majority of games that aren't primarily online/multiplayer are good to go straight out the box.

That's far from the only way to lose a digital game. As I said, I've permanently lost access to digital games that I purchased before, when Sony shut down the service hosting those games. It's why I had no qualms hacking my system and using backups of those games.
