TopicBottom line - if you're getting an Xbox, get the Series X. Otherwise, get PS5.

Having used the Series S for almost a week and a PS5 w/ disc drive since launch, here's my thoughts.

Don't even bother with Series S. It's not a better deal. It's not even a good "Game Pass box" with only 350 GB of usable storage and no support for Xbox One X enhanced games on Game Pass.

The extra $200 is worth it - for the disc drive (4K blu ray, cheaper used games, etc) and the 2x SSD storage space. And obviously the substantially better graphical performance and significantly better backwards compatibility.

If you "just want to use Game Pass" you need the console with the storage space for it.

For PS5, the decision is more difficult because they're basically the same device and one could reasonably argue that the disc drive alone isn't worth a $100 premium (I disagree, given the price of used games, but whatever).

Of the two platforms, I find the PS5 to be more enjoyable to play but it's admittedly subjective. So yeah, get a Series X if you want Xbox.
