I would love to learn then teach my 3 year old niece when she's older.

I feel like I'm too old to learn.

Learning will be much harder, especially reflexively. Will take you much longer and more practice than everyone else.

On that note, don't bother with defensive Martial arts like Karate they are useless.

If you have any near you Muay Thai Kick Boxing or Krav Maga is great.

Even boxing is a better choice.

As someone who did MMA for 8 years of their youth, trust me when I say Karate barely counts as self defense.

If it's literally your only choice. Then I guess it's better than nothing.
