I understand being cautious, but it gets a bit silly Why would you tell a cop if it's completely unnecessary? What's next, you give him consent to search your car? Just follow the law, don't be disrespectful and go on your way. Think about it,what good does it even do to say, "oh by the way, I'm carrying a gun?" At best, it's a waste of breath.
