My only experience with pitbulls are as follows:

1: My GF was introducing me to her parent's friends who are avid pitbull lovers. She made sure to tell me as much, context, I was attacked by Dogs 3 different times as a kid so I don't like dogs very much unless they're being controlled.

We get to her parent's friends house, we are talking for no more than 25 seconds when their pitbull starts barking and rushes for the open door, starts chasing me and snapping at my ankles as I legitimately sprint 23mph+ away in fear of my life. Owner was able to finally wrangle her pit after 2 minutes of running a half mile from their house.

Owner says, once we had settled down, he was just playing, I'm so sorry! I laugh it off and think to myself "control your fuckin dog jfc"

2. When I was started losing weight before High School, I was doing jogging around the country side. People started moving in around us unfortunately, and also brought their unhinged and untrained fucking dogs. I was chased by angry pitbulls, labs, and rottweilers so often that I had to give up running entirely because one day they almost fuckin got me and I would have just been dead or disabled the rest of my life.

I have had pleasant experiences with all breeds of dogs mentioned, but when they were pleasant, it was because the dogs were trained and disciplined.

If you get a dog that weighs 45+ pounds you need to get some kind of training for it or be sure it never leaves your damn property. Animals are literally just territorial killing machines otherwise.
