Crazy to me that so many people have just never used something like that cause it seems so prevalent from my view of the world

I've never used an Uber or Lyft. I own my own car and drive pretty much everywhere.

The only times one would even be useful in any way would be if I were getting a ride to the airport (in which case I usually got a ride from a friend or took a cab), or if I was way too drunk to drive (in which case I always either had a designated driver who wasn't or had someone picking me up).

I think I've been on buses like three times in my life (not counting school buses as a kid, obviously), and I've taken cabs maybe a dozen times. That's pretty much it. About the only form of non-personal transit I ever use is the train (which I used to take into NYC all the time).

It's probably one of those things where it depends entirely on where you live, and to a lesser degree, how old you are. My suspicion is that they're probably most popular in relatively dense suburban areas (but not full urban areas, where you've generally got subways and buses or even walking as alternative options), and with younger people (who are more likely to be technophiles or see them as "proven" services, whereas older people might be more wary or more likely to go with more traditional options).
